Welcome to my 7th grade Mayan Math Project
History
This site focuses on the Mayan Math system used in ancient Mayan
times. Mayan Math was based on the number twenty and simple characters
multiplied by that. How they came up with the characters was Traders used
cocoa beans to figure out payment and time. One cocoa bean represents one
and one cocoa bean pod represses five multiplied by the area there in as
you'll see below.
Basic Math
This is where you learn how to count in Mayan. First you need to
learn the symbols like first there zero. The Mayans where a very civilization
because they understood the consept of zero. Many cultures never had this.
This is Zero
This is one
This is five
Now that you know the symbols you need to figure out how to make
the inbetween numbers like two, three, four, six, seven, eight, nine and
ten. Just to recap I'll start from one and end up at ten, then we'll learn
addition.
0
10
Now what you've all been waiting for ADDITION!!!!!!!!! First since
their base is twenty there are invisable rows you place numbers in to make
numbers that are higher than twenty. There are three rows you place them in. Twenty
, four hundred, and eight thousand, you multiply the number you put in
that row by the row number. Also there is a ones row where you don't multiply.
Since this is confusing I have made an example. I will make the number
8,425
x8,000
x400
x20
x1
